This Collab... Wow.
Watching this Collab, I felt that it was without a doubt one of the best overall Newgrounds "Collabs" ever made. The animation and art really stood out significantly, some bits being funny segments, others being beautifully animated tributes.

The biggest criticism I have is the choice to slap a pop team epic reanimated Collab on the end of this. They should have been two totally separate projects, as the PTE extends this project to the one hour mark while not offering much new to the viewer that all the other parts contributed.

I also think that it would be worthwhile to exclude the inclusion of parts specifically about IPs that already received their own Collabs in the past unless they were more crossovers.

The best part in this Collab by far was the Armstrong gym. It captures so many unique characters and their personalities while also beautifully portraying them faithfully to their original designs. Lupin part as well. Wow. Gorgeous.

I feel there was a lot of great stuff here. Honorable mention also goes to the humor of the Outlaw Star and Home Movies Gurren parts for being beautiful homages that made me laugh, everything about that Johnny Quest segment, and the Megas XLR transformation. I know I'm leaving some golden ones out but that's how many pieces were fantastic. I think this also is why PTE needed to be separated into its own Collab.

Also, please please please use more actors than just the same usual folks in everything. There are a LOT of people in the NG community that do VO- literally Corey has a whole server of them. It would be nice to hear more of them. Chris Pratt does not need to be Mario. Hopefully we will see more diverse casting in the future. This has been a problem on Newgrounds ever since the mid-2000s. Seeing the credits, there is nice enough swathe of VO credits but hopefully you understand what I mean. People like Corey and myself are booking real world VO jobs outside of Newgrounds, let's give some newbies a shot at the mic.

Speaking as part of said VA collab as well as VA forum mod, I'll gladly sit down with you at some point and go through your plans and ideas on how to let the spotlight shine over new faces more often. Thanks for your response!

Sevi responds:

I had much bigger plans for this collab initially but a lot of people backed out, understandably, everyone's busy with their own stuff. The collab was planned to have a menu, a few small games, and commercials inbetween entries and easter eggs and such. as far as the voice actors, we had more in the server, but Corey, Josh and Nick were pretty much the only ones that replied to the animator's requests, and it's really up to the animators to find their voice actors.

I have a real appreciation for the amount of effort that went into this. You really clearly put heart into making it all. I think this is something I would have tried making when I was younger if I had the tools. I really think you should keep making videos. Mario vs Sonic was the main event in the early and mid-2000s. I really am glad to see this in 2022.

If this is what you can do now, I can't wait to see what waits in 5 years or more.

Favorited and voted 4/5! Very proud to be your first "fan" on Newgrounds!

Swag-boss9k responds:

Thanks alot I'm glad that you like my content and now that I think about it it really does hearken back to 2000s flash animations,I have way more planned in the future this is just the beginning.

Rough around the edges but I appreciate the intended scope. Not a ton of animation, the parts that were animated were colorless. I don't know if that's part of the original style but either way I appreciate the piece. I feel as though you ran out of time but still wanted to upload. Either way, keep up the hustle!

Pikafaa responds:

yeah this was just my second time trying to do animation on clip studio so I dont undersrand the tools very well still hahah😅 that's I did not color tha animation parts. My plan was gonna put up on pico day but at the end decide not to. thank you for your observations 👍✨

I <3 Piconjo!
If this is already part of the Piconjo Jam upload, why upload it separately?

ashmageddon responds:

we were told that we could upload it separately so i did xD
seeing any feedback or stats separate from that of teh jam as a whole also helps me see if my part was successful or not! plus it's nice for personal archival reasons

I'm really not sure where to go on this one.
The style is, of course, ProsciuttoMan, and it has a lot of that rather staggered / basic loop stuff going on with various things ranging from lipflap to violence. I think you sincerely need to get a better microphone because the quality of Gunman is drastically worse than every other voice in this production. You can make the argument that it's intentional, but everyone else sounds much more consistent, making Gunman uniquely echoey.

Of course, Crimer in particular being the character I myself voice, I found that his looping mouth frames really do not fit the Ben Shapiro style direction I was given for the line delivery. You needed to have start/stop on mouth assets, because otherwise it comes off as painfully lazy. This takes a lot of time, I had to do it for Ben Shapiroth. But it is worth it for a better product.

I think the thing that really made me laugh most was the second time Bullet Girl made a joke and Gunman lost his mind. The pushing for laughter part landed best there.

Overall, I think this fits into a mid-2000s animation culture more than 2022. There are too many shortcuts taken where there could be more polish. It feels like a half-step from an animatic/comic book to an actual cartoon.

The art pieces throughout were really nice and those bump up the score. The music choices were also a nice throwback to how things used to be.

Keep working on your timing and don't take shortcuts. Your style definitely doesn't feel like it's the best fit for longform material that's dialogue heavy. Refer to Peter the Ant or Goobee's Lament for more on what I mean, where these were very well communicated visually. The use of VO can be a double edged sword sometimes, and I think having clean audio almost brings the charm down.

Keep at it!

Gray responds:

Thank you a bunch! Great points and critiques man!

Stanpai responds:

Don't listen to this guy I just watched this video in 2023 and I laughed more than he did.

I give this 5/5 solely for the Pizza episode, which had a perfect blend of artistic ability, great writing, and immaculate execution.

It was a bit disappointing to see how many of the episodes relied on the same HURR HURR SHINJI GET IN THE ROBOT GENDO IS DISAPPOINTED ground that has been tread to death for over 25 years, but I won't let that bring down the score earned by some of the most hilarious or well crafted bits.

I also liked the Nigel bit and the EVA dating sim references. I would say I personally enjoyed 70% of this collab, and am sure others enjoyed it at least that much or more.

My last note: I really think a lot of NG animators are skilled at animating but not at writing, and would like to see more teaming up with writers for these collabs. The final product will be better.

EDIT:
Forgot to mention this before but I absolutely adore the way you handled the title cards for each part. That was beautifully done. Great!
